Lovely Year of Finishes- March Finish

Hey Guys!

This month’s goal was simple:

March Goal

  1. Get caught up with my Sugar Blocks!

Well I finished!  The block for February was my first attempt at paper piecing….it was tedious and it is not  perfect.  Thank goodness I subscribe to the galloping horse method.  If you are on a horse galloping by my quilt it will LOOK perfect ;0)

After doing these three block I cannot wait to get the pattern for April!  I am also in love with Essex Linen.  I will be back on Monday for my next set of goals and a snap shot of my finishes for the month.  Have a great Easter!

Until next time, Sew Pretty!

Greater Atlanta Shop Hop Bounty

Hey Guys!

The Greater Atlanta Shop Hop was a real experience for me!  It was my first time and I was excited to visit all 10 shops in the Atlanta area.  I started my journey on the day I picked up Princess Bernina.  Before I went to the Atlanta Sewing Center, I stopped at the Quick Trip and played a scratch off….and I won $100!  I knew then it was going to be a great weekend!

Greater Atlanta Shop Hop

I put my cash in my pocket to spend just for Shop Hop!

My first stop was Intown Quilters, which is my regular stop for all my fabric needs.  This is what I got:

Greater Atlanta Shop Hop

I am in love with Melody Miller!  The raindrops are a Alexander Henry print….I keep hearing Raindrops keep falling on my head…. The pattern below is one I have been looking at for weeks.  I had to get it! Greater Atlanta Shop Hop

Greater Atlanta Shop Hop

My photo bomber…Zeus.  He was determined to get my attention.  Now here is the best part of shop hop…every shop you go to you get a little grab bag with coupons, fabric scraps, candy and a free pattern!  If you spend more the $30 in a shop you get a free strip set.  Well I did not spend $30 in every shop ….NOT RICH!  HELLO!!!  So instead you can buy the strip set for $6 in each shop.  That sounded like a plan! Here is what I got from Intown:

That pattern looks super cool!

Next shop was, Sweet Home Quilt Co.  No where close to my house but I think I would go back!

Greater Atlanta Shop Hop

They had a great selection of pre-cut there.

Stich N’Quilt was the cutest shop and it had a room full of cat fabric!  The owner was this sweet lady who informed me …she tweets!  Made me think about my Grand …aways trying to let me know …she still got it!  LOL

A Scarlet Thread was amazing!  They had a great selection of fabric …alot of batiks, which is not really my thing.  They also had some design wall fabric that is a must have for my sewing room.  I just got a strip set there.

Greater Atlanta Shop Hop

Next up is Red Hen Fabrics.  They had their fabric arranged by color.  It was amazing!

Greater Atlanta Shop Hop

Little Quilts was not little at all!  They had a great collection of modern fabrics!  I happen to find a jelly roll of Chicopee…. I LOVE CHICOPEE!  Plus I got a free charm pack and some really cool coupons.

Georgia Sewing & Quilting was very far for me in Buford Ga.  I will see them next year!  I got a strip set and this very cute sewing set.

Greater Atlanta Shop Hop

Tiny Stitches has a great selection of modern fabric and I when I saw all these dots I had to get them!

Greater Atlanta Shop Hop

Last but not least is Patrick’s.  This shop is also far from me but I will be back!  They also sell plants, feeds and all kinds of nuts!  I grab a bag for my Happy Husband and he loved them!

Here are all my strip set!  All ten… I will be using all of these strips in my Maple Leaf Rag Quilt.  More details about that later.

Well that is the full Bounty!  I think this month I will be doing a lot of sewing!

Tutorial Trial

Hey Guys!

I know today is not Thursday but …. I have been working on something for you and I would have had it done by Thursday but I got my hair colored…AND… I had an extra Praise & Worship practice on Thursday night.  It was a long day!

Today’s tutorial trail comes from Aesthetic Nest.  Anneliese has created a wonderful tutorial for a Reversible Fat Quarter Apron.  I found this tutorial on Pinterest and promptly went over to Aesthetic Nest and was smitten by this tutorial.  I had to do it right away, plus my niece’s birthday is on the first.  I really had not choice but to attempt this super cute apron.

Let’s see the results:

  • How long did it take?  I was done in about two hours.  This is the quickest tutorial I have done.  I was really surprised how fast it went together.
  • Was it easy to follow? This tutorial was simple to follow!  There are lots of pictures and detailed instructions.  I did alot of first here…First time I made a buttonhole,  first time I sewed on a button and first time I used Ric Rac Trim.  Let me just say, all three were so much easier than I thought!  I am seriously thinking about taking some pattern classes soon because of this tutorial.
  • Do you have any tips?  I suggest you go through your fat quarter stash and make something fun and colorful for that sweet girl in your life!  She deserves this apron! ;0)  For the record, I could not find ribbon at my LQS that was suitable for the apron so I made some bias tape.  I made three, 3 inch by 18 inch strips folding them into double folded bias tape.  I also could not find any pom pom trim, so I just added some ric rac in it’s place.
  • Would you make it again?  I would totally make this again!  I am teaching a series of summer classes at Fabricate Studios and I think I will need some aprons on hand for those messy moments.   if you live in the Atlanta area, I hope you will let your baby get crafty with us!

Alright now let’s get to the best part!  The pictures:

Here are the beginning stages.

This fabric is from the collection called Madrona Road by Violet Craft.                                                                                                   I purchased this fat quarter bundle from the Fat Quarter Shop.

Meet Princess Grace.  She is my travel machine!  She is an amazing BabyLock machine and perfect for those on the go projects!  Her bigger sister Princess Bea gets car sick and is obviously my favorite! :0)

Tutorial Trial

Here I am in the final steps…sewing the apron together.

Tutorial Trial

Until today I had never made a buttonhole.  Thank God for YouTube!  This video was a great help, if you don’t know how this video would be a great start.

Tutorial Trial

Almost there, all I have left to do is sew on that button!

Tutorial Trial

The finished product!  I am in love with it ;0)

Tutorial Trial

I love every thing about this pattern.  The ric rac makes it soooo sweet, I only wish I had some pom pom trim.

I have one more thing to show you!  My hair!  I absolutely love the color…something fresh for spring:

I love it!

I love it!

Work In Progress

Hey Guys!

Today I was working on my Sugar Blocks from Stitchery Dickory Dock.  Here are the results:

IMG_0261 IMG_0262

I am really in love with the essex linen I used.  It really happened on a whim because I forgot to pack my Kona Snow.  Inside my bag I had a fat quarter of the essex linen.  I think it is perfect!   The first block is the block for January and the second is the block for March.  February’s block has paper piecing involved.    I will be tackling that tomorrow.  If you remember, these three blocks are my goal for Lovely Year of Finishes.  I am happy that I am on track.

With that said, those two blocks are the bulk of my sewing for the week.  I have been organizing and cleaning out my fabric stash.  Next week, my husband is off work for Spring Break and I am looking forward to some progress in my room (fingers crossed)!

I am linking up to Freshly Pieced, WIP Wednesday.  If  you are visiting from there, welcome!  I hope you leave a comment so I can come check out your blog ;0)

Until next time, Sew Pretty!

Book Review

Book Review

Hey Guys!

I am finally ready to do a review on this book!  Little Bits Quilting Bee by Kathreen Ricketson is a wonderful book.  What I like about it the most is that I want to make almost every project in this book.  Every quilt is made of nothing but pre-cuts and after reading each one seems to come together really fast.  I highly recommend this book for a new beginner or for the last minute quilt..  Every project is beautiful and if you are interested in finding out more about the author you can go to her blo, http://www.whipupp.net..

Well not only did I want to tell you about the book, I thought i would make something out of it also!  This project is a two for one deal because I will be making this project for a little girl and also submitting this quilt into project quilting lastest challenge!  I have finished all of the cutting and have completed the first row!  The quilt is called Cloud song and we are suppose to make something that reminds us of spring.  Well it does.  April showers bring May flowers!!  Here are some pictures of course:

I hope to be back later today with a complete quilt top.  After all….the finish quilt has to be done by Sunday!  Have a great da, you guys …..until next time, Sew Pretty!
