Another Start…

Hey Guys!

I have become bold and hung some batting from my door curtains to make a “design wall.”  Here are some pictures for you!

This fabric is called Textured Basics by Patty Young.  I am making this quilt for another little girl her name is Jocelyn and she is full of color herself!

I was going to make ribbon stars but my husband had me lay out the blocks like this and I really liked it.  Working on the design wall was very fun, allowing me to move things around.  I am really proud of how it is turning out!

IMG_0258I really am loving this fabric…the “tones” really do make you happy!

Spumoni Finished!

Hey Guys!

For the record, I actually finished this quilt last Wednesday with my Janome.  Quilting it on the Janome, which would only fill half a spool at a time was like forcing a 10 year old to eat liver and lima beans, but I did it!  This was the first quilt I made for a person that I wanted to keep for myself… it is sooo pretty!  Here are the pictures:

I had to take frequent breaks because of Hello Kitty.

Here I am sewing the binding.

So guys, what you think?  I think this is my prettiest quilt yet!  With that said I am already working on another one.  I still have pictures to show you of two I am in the process of making and my shame for still not completing my friends baby quilt.   I have to finish that quilt! I will post more tonight maybe?  I am linking up to Plum and June for Let’s Get Acquainted Monday and Quilt Story.   If you are visiting from there please comment!  I love comments and finding new blog to read and be inspired by!

Until next time, Sew Pretty!

Introducing Princess Bernina

My Hello Kitty! She is going for good on Monday!

My Hello Kitty! She is going for good on Monday! My Mother said she taught me to love sewing now I need a big girl machine! LOL

Hey Guys!

This has been an eventful week!  On Sunday my Hello Kitty Janome started acting crazy. I was in the process of quilting and the bobbin kept acting up.  Then the bobbin winder would only wind half of the bobbin.  Well this was not the first time I have had problems with the machine since getting it, so on Tuesday I called Janome about my warranty.  The sweetest lady said, “Ms. Porter, we will fix it for free but you will have to pay $40 in shipping or you can get it repaired in Atlanta at one of our dealers and pay for labor.”  Ummmm that’s not free!  She then suggested for me to call the people I purchased the machine from.  I did and they gave me a FULL credit!  How amazing is THAT!

You all know I went to the Expo last weekend and was thinking of a Babylock.  Well I went to the (no where near Atlanta) Atlanta Sewing Center to check out the  Babylocks in person.  While I was there, the dealer showed me this:

This is the machine I came for, it is called Melody.

I really liked the Babylock.  It came with 14 feet and a table attachment.  I felt like this machine was practical and it also came with a case/cover for travel.  I am really an accessory girl at heart!  I have always wanted a Bernina, (a Bernina is on my Quilting Wish List on my Pinterest board) but never thought it was in my price range…well people it was!  Once I told the lady I wanted the Babylock she was like, ” I would really like for you to look at a Bernina.”  I said okay and after she showed me two Berninas she had me demo the 350 Patchwork Edition.  It sewed  effortlessly!  Then she said, “If you like this machine, we have it in a special edition.  It has hand painted flowers on it.”  I am really a sucker for graphics too :0)

This is what the dealer showed me!

This is what the dealer showed me!  My Happy Husband said it “Screamed KERRIE!” to him.

After seeing the machine, I went and got the Happy Husband.  He was impressed that the Bernina has a steel frame because he knows I can be a little clumsy!  Safer for the machine, I guess!  Any who, I had to wait until he made the final decision. He saw the machine on Wednesday and finally said I could get it on Friday.  Oh Joy!

Here are some pictures of me unboxing it!

My Happy Husband grabbed the manual and helped me unbox it.  I swear he read through the whole book.  He is capital A-Amazing!  Here are pictures of the accessories.

This is a full shank foot. It has a hole at the top of the foot that you match with the machine then you pull down a clasp and you are ready to go! NO MORE SCREWS!

I have not learned how to use this walking foot yet. The Bernina comes with three classes that teach you about the features of the machine.

Well guys, I am just the happiest girl in the world right now!  There are really no words.  I am so happy that I have a great machine that can help me further progress in my sewing.  If any of you have Berninas please tell me how you feel about your machine!  Also, I have a lot of Janome bobbins if anyone wants them let me know and I will pop them in the mail for you!

The Original Sewing Expo

Hey Guys!

Saturday, I went with some sewing buddies and went to the Original Sewing Expo.  This is the first time I ever went to something like the expo and I really did not know what to expect.  It was really amazing! There was sewing machines….Vikings, Babylocks, Free Motion Machines..I tried them all.  I think my next machine will be a Babylock.   I really like the Babylock Tempo.  What do you guys think?  I sat in for a few lectures, tried out a bunch of notions and purchased  the bias tape ruler and a new seam ripper.  I saw a demo on the Go Baby!  I think I will have to save for that one.  I did not win anything but all in all it was a great day.  Oh, I forgot, I got some fabric!  Here’s today’s eye candy:

This fabric is called Vintage Valentine by Kokka, which was purchased at Some Art Fabric.

This is called Transistor Radios from the collection Ruby Star Rising by Melody Miller.  I plan on making the Happy Husband and I iPad covers. If you guys saw a tutorial for it please let me know! Also, in this picture is my new seam ripper!  I will let you know how it works out for me.

Alexander Henry Bistro

This fabric caught my heart!  I saw it at the beginning and went back right before I left.  It is called “Bistro” by Alexander Henry.  This is not the first Alexander Henry I got…I think he is my new favorite!

Well, that is all for now, until next time…Sew Pretty!

It will have to wait until tomorrow…

Hey Guys!

Well, I have been working on this quilt most of the day and I was ready to baste this pretty thing and guess what?  No batting!  It will have to wait until tomorrow.  I am so disappointed, because I would have started quilting tonight.  Oh well..here are some picture of the quilt top and the pieced back.  I used every single scrap from the block to piece together the back.  It was very freeing working with all those scraps!

It can wait until morning

Here is the finished quilt top!  I really love the outside border.  I think it frames it perfectly.  I will be calling this quilt Spumoni.  Spumoni is an Italian ice cream that has pistachio, chocolate and cherry ice cream together.  In one of the classes I am taking, the teacher suggested the ice cream flavor and I think it is perfect!

It can wait until moring

Here is my pile of scraps….there was so much I could not toss it aside.  It was really fun making something out of nothing!

I made my scraps fit into a log cabin!

Here is a picture of the quilt back.

Well, that is all for tonight or this morning ;0) Until next time,

Herringbone Quilt Update

Hey Guys!

I have been busy at work on this quilt.  I have one more row left and sashing left to do but I will be going out today to “The Original Sewing Expo” here in Atlanta! I am sooooooo excited ;0) Can you tell?

Ready to go!

Here is my quilt:

I have one more row left to do!

I have one more row left to do!

I am starting to like it…this quilt makes me think of ice cream for some reason…strawberry and pistachio ice cream.  Once I get back, I hope I will have some new experiences to share and something amazing that I will hopefully get for free.  Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Until next time, Sew Pretty!
