Friday Finish & Winner Announced

Hey Guys!

I have been really busy this week working on two quilts for two birthday boys!  These boys are the children of my friends Maya and Steven.  I have only finished binding one but i am in need of a nap and I will be back tomorrow to show the second quilt.  The quilt is designed from the St. Louis 16 Patch and if you don’t know what that is you should go read the tutorial trial on the St. Louis 16 Patch.  Here are the pictures:

Here is the quilt top.  The fabric is from Shore Thing which was purchased at the Fat Quarter Shop.  I quilted the quilt with straight line quilting in a double line grid pattern.  The pictures do not do the quilting justice..;0(  I did all the quilting with silver aurifil thread (My favorite for quilting) and binded the quilt with a Bella solid.  I picked this sandy brown fabric because it made me think of the beach.

The back of the quilt has raw edge appliqué.   I used scraps from the block to create the base of the quilt back.  I also used scraps that I sewed together to cut out the letters and ship …making patchwork letters.  I think it’s super cool!IMG_0616

Here is a picture of both quilts folded waiting for binding.

Tutorial Trial

Hey Guys!

I know today is not Thursday but …. I have been working on something for you and I would have had it done by Thursday but I got my hair colored…AND… I had an extra Praise & Worship practice on Thursday night.  It was a long day!

Today’s tutorial trail comes from Aesthetic Nest.  Anneliese has created a wonderful tutorial for a Reversible Fat Quarter Apron.  I found this tutorial on Pinterest and promptly went over to Aesthetic Nest and was smitten by this tutorial.  I had to do it right away, plus my niece’s birthday is on the first.  I really had not choice but to attempt this super cute apron.

Let’s see the results:

  • How long did it take?  I was done in about two hours.  This is the quickest tutorial I have done.  I was really surprised how fast it went together.
  • Was it easy to follow? This tutorial was simple to follow!  There are lots of pictures and detailed instructions.  I did alot of first here…First time I made a buttonhole,  first time I sewed on a button and first time I used Ric Rac Trim.  Let me just say, all three were so much easier than I thought!  I am seriously thinking about taking some pattern classes soon because of this tutorial.
  • Do you have any tips?  I suggest you go through your fat quarter stash and make something fun and colorful for that sweet girl in your life!  She deserves this apron! ;0)  For the record, I could not find ribbon at my LQS that was suitable for the apron so I made some bias tape.  I made three, 3 inch by 18 inch strips folding them into double folded bias tape.  I also could not find any pom pom trim, so I just added some ric rac in it’s place.
  • Would you make it again?  I would totally make this again!  I am teaching a series of summer classes at Fabricate Studios and I think I will need some aprons on hand for those messy moments.   if you live in the Atlanta area, I hope you will let your baby get crafty with us!

Alright now let’s get to the best part!  The pictures:

Meet Princess Grace.  She is my travel machine!  She is an amazing BabyLock machine and perfect for those on the go projects!  Her bigger sister Princess Bea gets car sick and is obviously my favorite! :0)

Here I am in the final steps…sewing the apron together.

Tutorial Trial

Until today I had never made a buttonhole.  Thank God for YouTube!  This video was a great help, if you don’t know how this video would be a great start.

Almost there, all I have left to do is sew on that button!

The finished product!  I am in love with it ;0)

I love every thing about this pattern.  The ric rac makes it soooo sweet, I only wish I had some pom pom trim.

I have one more thing to show you!  My hair!  I absolutely love the color…something fresh for spring:

I love it!

Spumoni Finished!

Hey Guys!

For the record, I actually finished this quilt last Wednesday with my Janome.  Quilting it on the Janome, which would only fill half a spool at a time was like forcing a 10 year old to eat liver and lima beans, but I did it!  This was the first quilt I made for a person that I wanted to keep for myself… it is sooo pretty!  Here are the pictures:

I had to take frequent breaks because of Hello Kitty.

Here I am sewing the binding.

So guys, what you think?  I think this is my prettiest quilt yet!  With that said I am already working on another one.  I still have pictures to show you of two I am in the process of making and my shame for still not completing my friends baby quilt.   I have to finish that quilt! I will post more tonight maybe?  I am linking up to Plum and June for Let’s Get Acquainted Monday and Quilt Story.   If you are visiting from there please comment!  I love comments and finding new blog to read and be inspired by!

Tutorial Trial Thursday

IMG_0057

Hey Guys!

Is it STILL Thursday? Technically it is…anyway!  Today’s trial comes from Chasing Cotton’s Pop Flower Coaster.  If you get a chance go check out her blog ….very cute!  Let me say…I wanted to practice some appliqué only because I am in the process of planning my entry for Project Quilting. Let’s see the results:

  • How long did it take?  It took me about an hour to complete.
  • Was it easy to follow? It was easy to follow but my “coaster” came out more like a mug rug, which I don’t mind.
  • Do you have any tips?  I really had a hard time following the circle.  This will be an area I will have to work at but it you can do …go on with Ya Bad Self!
  • Would you make it again?  Yes, I will!  I have to, only because this trial did not produce the best results.  Practice makes perfect, on the other hand….I think I would even put these pretty flowers on a quilt!  Wouldn’t that be cute?

Heres some pictures for you!

Here is a closer look at my …circle?

This is the back….this whole project was made of scraps and charm squares I got from a charm swap in December.  Fabric well used!

Work In Progress

Hey Guys!

You remember this?

IMG_0058

I am so over it!  I have instead started over!  I decided to take the Scrappy Trip Along route.  Today I made myself a sample…Let’s take a look.

The baby I am making this for (Bently) nursery is decorated with pirates!  I really like how this is shaping up.  I am starting to feel inspired.  My plan is to make a quilt, a car seat quilt and a set of burp cloths.  It is my hope to be done with the main quilt this weekend.  I think I can do it!

Here are all of my cuts!
