Sunday Sewing & Giving Thanks

Hello Everyone!

First of all, I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!  There is so much to be thankful for ….If I could name one thing that I was thankful for.   It would be my Mother.  She is my best friend and I am so proud of her for stepping out on faith, believing in herself and  trying new things.  She is now a budding artist and just as I found sewing it seems she has found art.  She is doing new things boldly and I am thankful for that!  Being our Mother is not an easy thing …plus now Candy Crush is NOT ALL she has anymore!  Some of you know my Mom blogs over at The Wonder of Yarrow House, check her out and see her latest project!

Moving on to sewing things!  Be warned this is a LONG POST!  I have been working on a number of things this week.  This Thanksgiving, I did not have the duty of cooking and decided I was going to do nothing but sew.  Sew what I want and catch up on some goal sewing (more on that later).

  • Spoonflower.com Quilt Label:  I decided, after November’s West Atlanta Modern Quilt Guild meeting, that I was ready for some proper labels.  One of our members explained they use Spoonflower to print out her labels so I asked Google if there were any tutorials on this subject and her (Google) response was this link from Jay Bird Quilts.  She even gives you a template.  I did not use the template but instead used Pages to make my label.  I took a screen shot of my label and uploaded it to Spoonflower.com.  It was really too easy!  I purchased a fat quarter for like $10 buck and got 30 labels.  Pretty cool hun?  Once it get’s here I will let you know how it works. Here is the picture.  2013-11-30 03.35.34 pm
  • Noodlehead Cargo Duffle:  Noodlehead just published a new FREE pattern (here) and I thought I would try it out.  I would like to thank Diana & Allegory (from Fabricate Studios) for being great teachers.  Their instruction is the only reason I was able to finished the bag (according to the directions).  I did not follow the pattern to the tee but at the end it was still a bag and very similar to the pattern.

I did not finish it like she suggest but instead boxed the corners.                                                                                                          My husband thinks it will make a good diaper bag… I may just put it up for that time.

  • Gypsy Wife Quilt Pattern:  I have the new Dowry fabric from Anna Marie Horner and purchased the coordinating solids along the with Gypsy Wife pattern from Westwood Acres Fabric.  This shop belongs to Amanda from A Crafty Fox and she is amazing!  Fast shipping and a great selection.  I have completed 7 blocks already but here is a picture of the first three:

  • The Cat Quilt Along:  Elizabeth Hartman from Oh Frannson! is running a Cat Quilt Along.  Everyday she is going to post a tutorial for a cat block.  There are 25 blocks and each one is named.  The cat below is named Ferdinand.  I went ahead and purchased the pattern because I am making this as a Christmas present for my God Mother who loves cats!   I also decided to enlarge the blocks to 15 inch blocks instead of the 6 1/2 inch block the pattern makes.  I hope these large blocks don’t scare my Pammy’s kittens!   Here is my first block: IMG_0364

Wow!  That was a lot!  I will keep you posted on the progress ;0)

Until next time, Sew Pretty!

Work In Progress

Hey Guys!

Tonight I will revealing a finished quilt…maybe two finished quilts!  Last night I took a class with a friend and made two envelope pillows and finished another clutch.  I have been a busy girl.  Here is a picture of the latest clutch …this one is quilted!

Work In Progress

Hey Guys!

Today I was working on my Sugar Blocks from Stitchery Dickory Dock.  Here are the results:

IMG_0261 IMG_0262

I am really in love with the essex linen I used.  It really happened on a whim because I forgot to pack my Kona Snow.  Inside my bag I had a fat quarter of the essex linen.  I think it is perfect!   The first block is the block for January and the second is the block for March.  February’s block has paper piecing involved.    I will be tackling that tomorrow.  If you remember, these three blocks are my goal for Lovely Year of Finishes.  I am happy that I am on track.

With that said, those two blocks are the bulk of my sewing for the week.  I have been organizing and cleaning out my fabric stash.  Next week, my husband is off work for Spring Break and I am looking forward to some progress in my room (fingers crossed)!

I am linking up to Freshly Pieced, WIP Wednesday.  If  you are visiting from there, welcome!  I hope you leave a comment so I can come check out your blog ;0)

Until next time, Sew Pretty!

The quilt below is for another friend who has already had her baby.  I am having such a hard time finishing up this scrappy trip along!   Poor WIP!  Hopefully I will have it done before April!

Work In Progress

Hey Guys!

Well…my husband is home today, he is under the weather but while he resting he is constantly saying…You working on my quilt for my friend?  Oh it soooo pretty!  He is really cracking me up!  Any other time he be complaining about my other Sewing MANchine Fabio (because my SM is temperamental with the stitching) Any who I have finished all my cutting and now piecing together the blocks.  The blocks are from a tutorial which I will talk about more on Thursday.  Here is a picture for you..I may post again tonight on my progress.

I got this fabric from Fat Quarter Shop the collection is call Les Amis by Patty Sloniger for Michael Miller Fabrics.  I get 10 fat quarters every month from their monthly program.  I added a two solids to each of the two color groups.

Two Groups

Here are both groups of the fabric.  I added the solid strip and the white dot fabric.  I think the turtles are super cute!

I have finished three blocks and stitched them together.

So far, I have finished three blocks and stitched them together.

Here is a picture of all the cut strips sorted…sorting done by the Happy Husband!  He has a “toss method.”  He literally tossed the strips in the air and then stacked them up.  I really think he was entertaining himself. ;0)

I will be linking up to Freshly Pieced today for WIP.  If you are visiting from there please let me know, I love to hear to your comments!

Until next time, Sew Pretty!

The baby I am making this for (Bently) nursery is decorated with pirates!  I really like how this is shaping up.  I am starting to feel inspired.  My plan is to make a quilt, a car seat quilt and a set of burp cloths.  It is my hope to be done with the main quilt this weekend.  I think I can do it!

Here are all of my cuts!

Work In Progress

Hey Guys!

I have been really busy this week but I must admit, I have not really worked on the flying geese for this quilt this week.

Image

What I have been working on is my submission for project quilting.  I have made 16 block and tomorrow I will piecing those blocks.  I worked so hard on the block today, I was forced to take a trip to Whipstich (The Atlanta Area Sewing Lounge) just to hang out with some sewing buddies.  I made something….I will share that tomorrow!

I have also worked on a few projects…here are some more pictures.

Here is a picture of my fabric choices for Project Quilting!  It’s bright, modern and sunny.
