My Birthday Adventure

Hey Guys!

Today is my Birthday!  I know I am getting old because I needed a calculator to tell me how old I was this year.  I couldn’t remember if I was going to be 31 or 32.  The calculator sadly said I was 32 this year.  Oh well!  I decided to make the best of it this year and embrace all the free stuff I could get my hands on.  So let me tell you about my Birthday Adventure.

I woke up late…the sun was already up.  That was amazing.  My husband gave me some money to get my hair done for my birthday and my appointment was at 2:30pm.  I left home around 12 so I could get my first birthday gift.  I went to Cami Cakes (a cupcake place here in Atlanta) for a free cupcake then I walked next door to Fire House Subs and got a free sub!  I know amazing!   There is more.   Next, I went to Lenox Mall and stopped by Sephora for my free birthday gift.  On my way to the car, i walked through Macy’s and they gave me free samples just because…..it was my birthday.  After that, I went to my hair appointment.  This is what my hair looked liked before.

My appointment was at 2:30pm but my hair stylist did not start until almost 3:00  She was behind, very behind.  Just the same, I was determined not to have a bad attitude on my birthday.  It was frustrating …by the time I left my hair appointment it was almost 6pm.  I spent 4 hours there when it normally takes me a hour and a half to get my hair done.  At the end it was worth it when she charged me $50 instead of $80.  YEAAAA!  I was so shocked I was speechless.  Since it was 6pm and I live in Atlanta I had no choice but to browse around Hancock.  I HAD to go…I HAD no CHOICE!  LOL  with my extra hair money I got some batting that was on sale and they gave me a !5% coupon because I am a teacher in training.  I get to use this coupon every time I go, so if you are a teacher go get get your card!  On a whim, I decided to head back to the mall and go to Anthropology, one of my favorite stores and bought this mug.

It was $10 and totally the best gift from my husband’s birthday money.  On my way home, I was hungry so I stopped by Moe’s for my FREE Birthday entrée.   By the way, here is how my hair turned out:

It is pretty humid here so my curls have completely dropped but it is super long and straight!  I am pretty happy with it!  This is me at the container store picking up my last item before I headed home.   I got this bright pink caddy for my sewing cart.  Yesterday, I went out with friends and got a sewing/craft box for my travel sewing machine.  Two additional gifts from my Happy Husband.

My Birthday is not quite over yet, I have a Birthday Stash planned for Saturday and we are heading to a movie tonight and a free meal at iHOP.

I would like to point out this is the first year I have taken advantage of all these freebies.  You can do the same on your birthday by going to this link.

From Start to Finish…

Hey Guys!

I hope you are having a great day!  Today, I thought I would share how I plan a quilt.  I often work from a pattern but sometime inspiration strikes me.  When this happens I have to pull out my graph paper and attempt to draw what is in my head.  Everything starts with idea then I grab my sketch book, a pen and my colored pencils.

I then use my red pen to draw a set of darker grid lines.  Today I am thinking about how much  I love the scrappy trip around the world but I wish the blocks could be bigger.  What If I combined the scrappy trip around the world and the St Louis 16 patch.  IMG_0588

I decide I want to use my Kate Spain fabric for this quilt ….I am calling it the Scrappy Trip 16 Patch.  What you guys think?

Next, using my colored pencils, I match a fabric to a pencil so I can draw out the possible quilt.

Now I am almost ready to get started.  I decide I am going to place a white strip in the middle of each Scrappy Trip 16 Patch so I outline that first.

Now I am ready to start filling in the remaining blocks.   This is what each Scrappy Trip 16 patch will look like.  Are you following me?

Here is my sketch all colored in.  I think I am in love!  I really like how it looks like a pixelated plus.

Here is the finished quilt.

I think it looks a lot like the sketch!  I am in love with it.  IMG_0798

So what you guys think?  Tomorrow I will be posting a tutorial for this quilt.  This will be my first time doing such a thing and I must admit I am a little excited!  Stay tuned!

My July Finish

Hey Guys!

This month has really flown by and I have found myself to be pretty busy!  Today’s post is about my Lovely Year of Finishes.  I hope you are already joined in on this goal setting …it really helps me to keep up!  Here is my finish for this month.

My Maple Leaf Rag Wall Hanging

This quilt is not an easy feat!  This is what I had at the beginning of the month.

The maple leaf rag is meant to be made out of scraps.  I tried my best to follow those rules!   The inside of the maple leaf rag is from a low volume bundle I had from West Wood Acres.  Everything else is a scrap, which is very rewarding for me.

I really had to make myself sit down and work on this but let me say…it is tedious but as I finished each block it was rewarding.  I enjoyed making the quilt.   I may …MAY…even make another.

I hope you can see the binding, which was from another quilt I made.  There was just enough to bind this tiny thing.

I decided not to use batting in this quilt but instead quilted it with some flannel I had left over from another quilt.  I quilted it with red thread echoing the spider webs.

Well that is all for now!  If you are looking for things in the mail from me….they are in the mail ;0)

My Response & A Winner Announced

Hey Guys!

I want to thank each and every one of you who visited my Mom’s blog.  She is super excited about her “new” audience.  If you read her response to the giveaway…I think there are a few things I need to clear up.

  1. I did give away my hat and scarfs but I never gave away my coat.  She would have really been mad then.
  2. I am naturally too nice and had to learn that EVERYONE is not my friend.  Being nice is still important to me!
  3. I do talk a lot!
  4. A friend once told me my super power was Joy.  I am sure she was speaking of my knack for being excited!  I really do use alot of exclamation points in my everyday conversation :0)
  5. Now to explain what my Mom was saying about my hands.  As an infant, I would never let anyone touch my hands.  I would pull them away.  My Mom decided because of this, I would one day do something special with my hands.  Now at the age of 31, quilting seems to be the special thing I do with my hands.

Here is my favorite picture of me and my Mom:

And now on to winner!

My Multitasker Tote

Hey Guys!

I have finished another bag!  I took a class at Fabricate Studios for the Anna Marie Horner Multitasked Tote.  I really enjoyed making this bag.  Let me tell you why..  I made some daring fabric choices (No matchy match here) and I loved the bag so much I made two!  One for me and one for my Mom!

Here is my bag.  I got the fabric from Ikea.  The outer fabric I purchased over a year ago and the accent fabric I got a Ikea last week.  Somehow they look stunning together.  On the handles, I had some scraps of some pink leopard, which I desperately love.

Here is my Mom’s bag.  All this fabric is home dec weight and boy was those handles hard to turn.  Overall, I really love and i think I like it more then my bag.

That is all for today.  If you don’t know I am hosting a give away here.  You have until Friday at midnight to enter.  Good Luck!

Until Next Time, Sew Pretty!
