Tutorial Trial Thursday

Hey Guys!

Have you had a chance to check out my Pinterest page?  Well if you have, you know I am very active on Pinterest.  I love to find new and interesting things for me to do but the problem is…most of, if not all, of the things I want to do I don’t get a chance to or I am too intimidated to try!  Well no more!  Have you ever read a tutorial where the author says…Guys this is too EASY!  Well I am putting tutorials on trial!  It is my plan to do this once a month.  I will pick a tutorial, try it and review it.  If you would like for me to try a tutorial for you….let me know!

On to business!  Todays tutorial is for the Travel Sewing Kit by Lots of Pink Here.  I decided to make the Travel Sewing Kit because yesterday I received my Hex on the Beach Kit by Tula Pink.

I am so excited about my year long project!  There are 1000 pre-cut 1 inch hexis waiting for me to sew up!  Well, as soon as I got it open and took a glance inside I knew I needed a Hexi Kit for those moments when I am waiting at the doctors office, in the car or even relaxing at home.

Here are some pictures of my Travel Sewing Kit being created.

Here is the final product!  It’s soooooo cute!

Okay now that you have had your fill of eye candy…let’s talk about the tutorial.

  1. Was it clear?  Yes, but I did need some help understanding.  I am new at this after all and Diana from Whipstitch was more then willing to answer my questions or explain a set of instructions.
  2. How long did it take?  It took me about 3 hours to get it done.  I must admit, I was snacking, chit chatting and really taking my time.  I also had to redo the binding a couple of times.  This was the first time I had to make tiny binding.  I ended up hand stitching it for that reason.
  3. Am I happy with the results?  I absolutely love this kit.  I will kindly refer to it as MY Hexi Kit because that will it’s purpose.  I think it is a very practical item to have.  I was able to totally customize it to fit my needs and it was fun picking out the fabric for this item.
  4. Would you make this for a friend?  I would and I think next Wednesday I will be making this same item for a Special Whipstitch Friend! ;0)

I hope you really enjoyed this post and please make some suggestions!  Let’s try out these tutorials and find out the TRUTH!  Is it easy? Is it hard?  As always, until next time Sew Pretty!
